Sacred Celebrations Through the Seasons

Each year, Jingzhong Temple follows the traditional lunar calendar to host a series of grand ceremonial observances. These events are not only religious rites — they are the moments that bind the community together and carry its cultural memory forward.

1st lunar month
1st–5th day

New Year Opening

Throughout the Lunar New Year, the temple doors stand wide open day and night. Devotees stream in to light lamps, change flowers, and pray for a year of peace and abundance.

2nd lunar month
15th day

Birthday Grand Ceremony

The grandest celebration of the year. Ceremonial processions depart from the temple; the divine sedan chair tours the entire village. Sutras are chanted, offerings presented, and performers fill the forecourt as tens of thousands gather to honor the general.

3rd lunar month
Vernal Equinox

Spring Grand Rite

Following ancient ceremonial protocol, offerings of the Three Sacrifices and Four Fruits are presented amid the resonant strike of bells and drums, praying for successful planting and favorable rains.

7th lunar month
15th day

Ghost Festival Rite

On the Ghost Festival, the temple holds a Universal Salvation ceremony to offer merit to wandering spirits, while praying for ancestral protection — embodying the Taiwanese spirit of reverence for heaven, earth, and compassion for the unseen realm.

9th lunar month
Autumnal Equinox

Autumn Grand Rite

After the autumn harvest, the Grand Rite of Thanksgiving honors Yue Wumu Wang for a year of protection. The bounty of the harvest itself becomes the offering — and prayers for the coming year are made.

12th lunar month
24th day

Year-End Thanksgiving

At year's end, the temple holds its formal thanksgiving — reporting the year's events to Yue Wumu Wang and all the deities, expressing gratitude for their protection, and respectfully sending the gods back to the Heavenly Court for their annual review.
